Kesava Menon

Kesava Menon is an analyst and writer on political affairs. He was The Hindu’s first Pakistan Correspondent, from July 1990 to October 1993.

Menon started his journalistic career in Patriot in the summer of 1984 before switching to The Hindu in September that year. He joined as a Staff Reporter in the Delhi Bureau and became Senior Reporter in 1985 and then a Special Correspondent in 1987. He did a lot of ground reporting with the Delhi Bureau, covering the second phase of the Khalistan movement, the beginning of the Kashmir uprising and rural issues in Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh.

After Pakistan, following a brief stint as an Assistant Editor in The Hindu’s Chennai headquarters, he was posted to Bahrain as the paper’s West Asia correspondent, covering the whole WANA region from Iran to Morocco and Turkey to Oman from 1994 to 2002. During this period he travelled extensively in the area and reported on several major events and developments. Between 2002 and 2009, he was an Associate Editor with The Hindu based in Chennai and responsible for writing editorials on international affairs. He then served as Editor of the Malayalam newspaper Mathrubhumi for eight years until his retirement in 2017.

He lives in Kozhikode, Kerala with wife Nandini, daughter Durga and mother Nalini.
