Praveen Davar is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla and Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun. He was commissioned in the Deccan Horse, a distinguished armoured regiment, in 1971. Davar resigned from the Army in 1980 and joined the Indian National Congress (INC), which he has been serving for over four decades in various capacities. He was Secretary AICC in charge of various states and ex-servicemen matters, and was later appointed by UPA II as Member of the National Commission for Minorities. He frequently writes for national newspapers, agencies and INC publications on topics of historical interest and contemporary issues.
