Veena Muthuraman was born and raised in Thiruvananthapuram, India. She took the long and winding road through Chicago and London to Edinburgh in Scotland, which is now home. Her debut collection of short stories, A Place of No Importance, set in a place reminiscent of where her roots lie in rural Tamil Nadu, was published in 2015. Her debut historical novel, The Grand Anicut, set in southern India during the Roman era, came out in 2021. The Thief of Taxila is the first of a series of historical novels set along the ancient Silk Road.
