Khwaja Ahmad Abbas

Khwaja Ahmad Abbas (June 7, 1914 – June 1, 1987) was an Indian filmmaker, screenwriter, novelist and journalist who worked across Urdu, Hindi and English. Over his career, he won four National Film Awards in India, along with prestigious international honours such as the Palme d’Or (Golden Palm Grand Prize) at the Cannes Film Festival and the Crystal Globe at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. In addition to writing the screenplays for iconic films like Awaara, Saat Hindustani, Mera Naam Joker and Bobby, Abbas was a prolific writer, having authored 74 books across multiple languages. Inquilab, his most famous novel, has been translated into various Indian and foreign languages, including Russian, German, Italian, French and Arabic.
